Gartner Identifies Top Five Trends in Privacy Through 2024

By 2024, 75% of the world's population will be covered by the Privacy Policy.

Ensuring the confidentiality of personal data continues to top the rankings of issues of concern to both ordinary citizens and organizations. The implementation of confidentiality mechanisms is most often entrusted to the CISO and is considered as part of the business continuity support system.

With the ever-increasing regulatory measures and increased privacy regulations, we invite you to review Gartner's guidance on where to focus your efforts in the near future.

Gartner guides business leaders to focus on 5 key trends:

  1. Localization of data in accordance with the regulatory landscapes of different regions of the world. If your company operates in multiple countries or regions, it is important to keep this in mind and be prepared to comply with local privacy laws, including when using cloud technologies that may be located in different parts of the world.
  2. Gartner introduces a new concept – Privacy-Enhancing Computation Techniques, PEC (Privacy-Enhancing Computing) and predicts a significant increase in the use of computing technologies that, unlike conventional data security controls at rest, improve the privacy of data in use. This allows external untrusted environments (public clouds or information sharing environments) to be used in a privacy-aware manner.
  3. Gartner draws attention to the need to pay more attention to assessing the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions on privacy. Solutions that have built-in artificial intelligence capabilities are used to track employee behavior, measure consumer sentiment and create “smart” products, absorb private data, which in the future, in the absence of an AI management program, can be a problem in analyzing this data.
  4. Combining all aspects of UX (user experience) privacy management – notifications, cookies, consent management and processing of subject rights requests (SRR) – in a single self-service portal. Gartner believes that this approach provides convenience for key stakeholders, customers and employees, as well as significant time and cost savings.
  5. Given the rise of mixed work-life models, which is leading to organizations wanting more control, Gartner insists on the need for a human-centric approach. This implies respect for confidentiality, in particular the minimal use of monitoring data, and with a clear goal, for example, to improve the employee experience or mitigate the risks of burnout.
